Search Optimisation

It is an undisputed fact of life that everything in this world now starts with a Google search. Can’t remember who played Batman in the 1992 classic Batman Returns… Google it (Michael Keaton thanks Google). Need to call out an emergency plumber at 2am. Google. Need to find a Business Growth Agency to help generate new business… that’s right Google. Or Bing if you accidentally open Internet Explorer.

For many, SEO is viewed as a dark art, shrouded in mystery. With phrases like “gateway pages” and “keyword density” being bandied about by specialist agencies and on-line guides there is an overall feeling that SEO is some form of black magic. There are indeed many techniques which work, to a point, some of which are complex some more straight forward. However, any benefits will not last without continual investment. This is because the objective is wrong. SEO shouldn’t be about getting to the top of Google for particular phrases. In fact, we shouldn’t be optimising for search engines at all. We should be optimising for people. After all it is people who click the links and the content they arrive at must be both relevant and engaging.

The simple truth is that Google aims to match the best possible results to an individual’s search. You certainly shouldn’t be aiming to trick the system and you shouldn’t want to. The secret is to provide readers with regular, well written content that is relevant to your business, services and products. Write it, share it on social media, publish it on news aggregators, drive traffic to your content and Google will be your friend.
